Why the Kingston Taxpayers Association?

Taxpayers' pre tax dollars are under attack by every level of Government. Local taxpayers have limited ability to change Federal and Provincial Governments spending patterns. However, in a small community like Kingston the ability to affect taxes on what ever remains in your pocket, is to some degree under taxpayers direct control.

In a normal Community environment, citizens can exercise control through the 12 Electoral Districts and their Councillors. At the last election, the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Association and individuals from Queens, decided they wanted to take Control of Council by electing Councillors that were more sympathetic to their goals and objectives. The net result is taxpayers of Kingston lost their DEMOCRATIC REPRESENTATION AND THEIR ABILITY TO CONTROL TAXATION LEVELS ON THEIR REMAINING AFTER TAX DOLLARS. THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY'S AGENDA IS NOW COUNCILS AGENDA.

If as a taxpayer you are concerned about the Market Square Naming issue where all future naming revenues that could have been gained over perpetuity, if desired, were sold for a lump sum of $1 million. If you are concerned about being saddled with the LVEC and the Multiplex Arena mortgages that each taxpayer will be accountable for if either or both fail, then you need to be personally involved in the KTA.

You should also understand that approximately 70% of the mortgage costs would fall on the non business taxpayers of this City.

GET INVOLVED WHERE YOU CAN BE MOST EFFECTIVE, call your Electoral District KTA representative now and join the KTA.

Taxpayers can make a difference.
